Welcome to the Hallett Cove Little Athletics Season for 2008/09.

Well 2008 is an Olympic year, and if past seasons are anything to go by, it should spark an interest in athletics and an increase in participation in Little Athletics.

Our membership last year was about the same as the previous season, around the 100 mark. We could certainly easily handle double that number, so help promote our centre amongst your family and friends and get out there and recruit some new members.

As my own kids get older and get involved in other sports, I have come to realise just how inexpensive Little Athletics is. People are constantly surprised when they ring up to enquire and I tell them the cost. Affordability is one of the great selling points of Little Athletics.

We have a great committee this year. The largest we have had since I got involved seven years ago. A great bunch of talented and hard working people. Their names are all listed on the page facing. Thanks to all of them for their contribution to the running of this Centre.

I'd like to single out Jon Hall, our Head Coach, for some praise. Every Monday night over the season he comes out and does a sterling job of coaching a small group of athletes. These sessions are very worthwhile and a great way for kids to better their performances and get more out of Little Aths. It would be great to see more athletes out there each week. Remember it's open to all age groups from U6 to U17.

I'd also like to acknowledge the great effort of D J Adair in making the SA State Team for the Australian Little Athletics Championships (ALACs) held back in April '08. A lot of hard work went in to this achievement and the reward was a silver medal in the 800m. Congratulations D J.

Speaking of ALAC's, the 2009 event is being hosted by SA in April. Hallett Cove have volunteered to host the Tasmanian State Team and we will be organising a function on the final night of the games for them.

Finally, remember - Little Athletics is about having fun and getting fit in a family friendly environment. It's about improving each week, being your best, having fun and making lots of new friends. Hope you enjoy season 2008/09!
